Signaling theory is used for describing behavior when two parties (individuals or organizations) have access or responses to communicated information.

2024 Artist in Residence | Sourwood Forest, Virginia

The Sourwood Forest residency offers artists, writers, and researchers a chance to foster creative inquiry and artistic expression through close contact with nature.

Despite its grace and beauty, sourwood trees are notorious for being difficult to establish in landscapes.

Sourwood is a small slow-growing tree although forest specimens exceed this small status. Sourwood has beautiful lustrous foliage in the growing season which turns a bright maroon to pink-red in the fall. In June/July it has delicate 8-inch-long somewhat pendulous white flower clusters that persist for about three weeks. Tan seedpods are somewhat showy and persist into the winter. Bark on mature trees is gray and blocky, and to those initiated in the bark appreciation sect, is quite handsome. Mature trees will also have an irregular somewhat contorted form which also adds to its beauty.

  • A woodburned piece of art depicting a child squatting with arms crossed, surrounded by multiple hands reaching towards him.

    March 1st - April 11, 2025

Gallery Hours - Tuesday through Friday: 9-4pm Sunday 1-5

Anam Cara is a phrase that refers to the Celtic concept of the "soul friend" in religion and spirituality. The phrase is an anglicization of the Irish word anamchara, anam meaning "soul" and cara meaning "friend".
